White Cheese Sandwich

Cheese, rolls, avocado, and tomatos.
A white cheese sandwich might not sound appetizing but the combinations of salty cheese, meaty avocado, and spicy chipotle mayo are an amazingly satisfying. I started making this sandwich about a year ago and have came back to it month after month. It's simple, a piece of fresh Mexican white cheese, slices of tomato and avocado on a toasted roll covered with homemade chipotle mayo. Below is my recipe for chipotle mayo, which is great for any sandwich.
Chipotle Mayo.

Mexican Corn

Mexican Corn
Mexican Corn is one of my favorite summer time snacks. Inspired by Havana Outpost's famous corn, I composed a recipe to make at home (with out a grill).

Mexican Corn
Makes 6 servings

Ingredients:

6 Ears of corn husked
1/4 Cup Mayo
1/4 Cup Sour Cream
1/4 teaspoon ground Comino
1 cup grated Cotija Cheese
1lime
Salt to taste
Chili powder to taste

Directions:

1. Microwave corn in a covered container for five minutes. After Microwaved place corn on broiler pan in broiler. Cook for five minutes on each side until spotted brown. Use tongs to turn corn.

2. While cooking the corn, mix mayo, sour cream, Comino, and salt in a bowl. Place cheese on a plate.

3. Once corn is done insert corn holders (I used a chop stick). Cover corn with mayo mixture. Roll corn in the cheese coating it. Sprinkle chili powder on the corn and finish with a squirt of lime.

4. Enjoy!

Broiled Corn
Mayo, sour cream, salt, and ground Comino mixture, chili powder,
Cotija cheese, and lime.

Dogmatic!

Lemon Lime Handmade Soda, Asparagus, and Lamb Sausage with
Truffle Gruyere cheese
Variety of Sausages, sauces, and Asparagus
Lamb Sausage with Mint Yogurt and Diet Coke
New York City hot dogs are almost as iconic as New York City it's self. However, the kind of hot dogs that you will find at Dogmatic are not what you would image as a NYC dog. Dogmatic serves up a variety of sausages and sauce in an artisan baked roll as well as a collection of delicious sides. A perk about these delectable dogs is that all the ingredients are organic and hormone free. Stop by Dogmatic at 26 E. 17th Street Union Square.

70 Cent Target

These images are provocative, informative, disturbing and 70 cents a piece. Great solutions for out fitting your cutting edge home with avant garde art on a budget. Pick up a few at LETargets.com a spectacular art gallery (according to David j.) My favorite is the image of two young teenagers, a skate board and a gun (below).

Hedge

I'm a big fan of spending time in the garden when I get to visit my parents' home in NJ. I've been hinting to my parents that their garden needs a make over and I have an easy solution (kind of easy). I think that a modren garden needs structure. Structured provided by manicured hedges contrasted with softer, "natural" shrubs and plants (which my parents have plenty of). Here are some not so modren gardens that take structure to a new level.

I got my first (and only) watch many years ago before everyone just checked their Iphone. I got it at a skate shop, of all places, and was owner of this watch for about a month until I set it down one day and it disappeared. I remember felling like a "grown-up" wearing that watch. I felt responsible. I knew what time it was, grown-ups always knew what time it was.
I haven't had a watch since which brought me to this post of 15 Great 11 Great: Watches. My requirements were: (1) It must be a great accessory, telling time is second. (2) It must be under $200, because you never know when it will disappear and (3) I must start my look at a skate shop i.e. Zumiez.

I love Lusy.

Ikea Lusy low pile rug 6'5" X 4'4", $ 39.99 (This picture doesn't do it justice)

Today I made a trip to Ikea to pick up a palm for the apartment in an effort to grow cleaner air (I wrote about this earlier in the month). Between eating may Mac and Cheese and browsing the new fall catalog I found this rug. Lusy, is a low pile rug with more colors than Benjamin Moore paint chips. I'm in love with this rug but just can't figure out where and how I can use it. I'll be posting photo's of the apartment soon and one can better under stand my dilemma.

Rugby

"Make Your Own" Oxford in pink with navy embroidery and "Make Your Own" Polo in navy with pink embroidery
Rugby by Ralph Lauren started in 2004 with a skull and crossed bones as their logo. They provide preppy basics from polo shirts and dresses to sweaters and university pants. A feature that is unique to the label is their Make Your Own garments such as rugby shirts and oxford shirts. The customer has the option to embroider their initials, name, Rugby logos, and numbers on different basics in a select few colors. Above I have created two shirts in a navy and pink color story with a small and large logo and my initials. The best part is that each shirt retails for $65!

Shwood

Govy Zebrawood $95
Govy East Indian Rosewood $105

Canby Zebrawood $95
Canby Maple $95

I previously found a pair of sunglasses by Jeepers Peepers that were plastic with a faux wood finish. But then I found the real thing by Shwood. Shwood sunglasses are handmade in Portland Oregon from sustainably harvested wood from authorized and supervised plantations in Africa and they look great. I think the Zebrawood frames are the best, you can really see the grain in them unlike the maple and Rosewood options (not that I'm knocking them, they're still seriously cool).

Etsy Shop: Moon Raven Designs

Small silver bear claw pendant necklace $20, Bronze 3D whitetail deer antler pendant necklace $45, Life size bronze mink jaw pendant necklace $39, Bronze chicken foot pendant necklace $135
Sterling silver bighorn ram skull pendant $125, Polised bronze eagle claw necklace $165, Bronze imperil elk antler pendant necklace $50, Sterling silver wolf claw pendant necklace $84

These animal skulls, antlers and claws from Esty vendor Moon Raven Designs are just awesome. They are completely on point with designers like Pamela Love and Surface to Air creating simular designs. However, MRD has an advantage with prices starting at $20 (small bear claw). At these prices you can get a different necklace for everyday of the month.

Victorian Cockroach Necklace

Cockroach Necklace by Tetanus Jewelry
Originally seen on Jane Aldridge of Sea Of Shoes, this cockroach necklace reminds me of a cameo (the popular Victorian, carved, stone-portrait ornament). While the majority of people find this cockroach encased in a clear pendant disgusting, I enjoy the modern twist on this Victorian-era inspired accessory. I particularly like the braided-chained detail around the side of the pendant, giving the necklace some exquisite detail. Unfortunately, you can only find the Tetanus Cockroach Cameo by Benjamin Hubert at Texas-based stores Dolly Python and Shampoo Salon.
